Salesforce.com and VMware are forging a high-profile partnership, according to a Web site announcing an April 27 event being held by the companies.

The site, VMForce.com, includes few details about exactly what is planned, saying that Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff and VMware CEO Paul Maritz will "make an exciting joint announcement on the future of cloud computing."

"VMForce is coming," a headline reads. "See it here live on April 27."

Representatives for both vendors did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday.

The VMware partnership could result in some type of virtualization-as-a-service offering, but other evidence makes the guessing game more difficult.

VMware has recently made moves toward application development, purchasing Java tools maker SpringSource, as well as business applications in general, scooping up the Zimbra e-mail and collaboration suite from Yahoo.

In turn, Salesforce.com has been broadening its offering beyond pure CRM (customer relationship management) with efforts like the Force.com development platform, its AppExchange marketplace and FinancialForce.com, accounting software that is the result of a joint venture with Unit 4 Agresso.


Salesforce.com and VMware will unveil today a new platform offering that brings development of enterprise Java apps to the cloud. Called VMforce, the new venture will target the millions of Java developers who use the Spring framework, enabling them to write apps on top of Force.com.

Cops arrived at the couple's home responding to a 911 today at 9:53 AM. According to TMZ, Tito was arrested for felony domestic violence.

Tito is in custody and heading to the Huntington Beach jail in Orange County, CA. Tito and Jenna are the unmarried parents of twin boys.

The police received a 911 call at 9:53 am reporting a disturbance at the home. The website ran photos of Ortiz being led from the home in handcuffs.

It is then that Tito Ortiz was arrested on felony charges, and it was clear that Jenna Jameson was suffering from visible injuries.

The parents of Powell, her husband Josh Powell's sister, Jennifer Graves, and Graves' husband Kirk Graves appeared on the show with Cox family spokeswoman Shelby Gifford.

"The thing that has bothered me the most about Josh's behavior is that he has been uncooperative with the police in giving them any details," she said.

"If she had a breath in her body, she would not let them out at that time in the morning," he said.

"We will be talking to them," he said.

In an e-mail Monday, family spokeswoman Shelby Gifford asked the media to refer to Susan Powell as Susan Cox Powell. Gifford said this was because those who loved her knew her as Susan Cox, though the world knows her as Susan Powell. The foundation started in her name will be the Susan Cox Powell Foundation.
The mystery of her disappearance has since deepened, and authorities are now treating the case as a criminal investigation. Concerned that the family could have succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning, police, accompanied by a family member, entered the Powell family home. At this time, it remains unclear if the "wet spot" is connected to the case, as police are refusing to comment.

As the investigation continued, Joshua Powell showed up at his home on the evening of the 7th, along with the couple's two children. Investigators attempted to verify the story by visiting the area in question; however, recent snowfall made it impossible to determine whether anyone had been there.

Two days after Susan was reported missing, police confiscated the family’s van to search for evidence. The contents of the warrants are currently sealed by the court; however, The Salt Lake Tribune has filed a motion to have them opened.
In addition to the warrants, police have named Joshua Powell a "person of interest" in the case.
Increasing police pressure and media tension caused Joshua Powell's father, Steven Powell, to break his silence and speak out about the case. During a brief interview with The Salt Lake Tribune, the elder Powell said his son was being "vilified."

Further prompting from reporters caused Powell to clam up again, and he asked to be left alone.

"I don't need to explain anything," Powell said. "There is nothing to explain." Authorities say they have no reason to prevent the move and that he is free to come and go as he pleases.

Meanwhile, Susan's friends and family members continue to raise awareness of her disappearance and have taken the search to the Internet – setting up pages on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

Subscriber and profit losses continued in Sprint Nextel's first quarter as the firm prepared to launch an innovative handset and a nationwide 4G network that it hopes will return it to its former glory and profits.

The company said it lost $865 million on revenue of $8.1 billion.

The Nextel operation continued to be an albatross around Sprint's neck. After failing to sell the iDEN network, Sprint hunkered down and repositioned it as a prepaid network.

Sprint may be betting the store on the success of its 4G network and its majority ownership of Clearwire, which is rolling out a nationwide WiMax high-speed network. The deployment of the network appears to be accelerating, as Sprint said its 4G service currently serves nearly 40 million people and coverage is expected to reach as many as 120 million people by the end of the year. The U.S. solar bellwether is releasing its first quarter earnings after the market close on Wednesday, and more and more focus from the Street has been on how First Solar is transitioning to the largest-scale, utility project-oriented solar space. The decline in cancellations during the first three months of 2010 indicates the company's turnaround effort is showing progress, but a key part of its business experienced further weakness. Sprint lost 578,000 postpaid subscribers, mostly in its Nextel division. executives endured more than 10 hours of congressional grilling in one of the most public, and most hostile, political lashings in the firm’s 141-year history. They probably succeeded in that.”
At 08:30 am ET, the S&P 500 futures rose 4.90 points to 1,185.90. The Dow Jones Industrial average futures climbed 28 points to 10,983. The Nasdaq Composite futures gained 10.75 points to 2,019.50.

Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) said Wednesday that its first quarter net loss widened to $865 million or 29 cents per share, compared to net loss of $594 million, or 21 cents per share, in the comparable quarter last year. (NYSE: WLP) reported that its first-quarter net income rose to $876.8 million or $1.96 per share, compared to $580.4 million, or $1.16 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Adjusted earnings climbed 7.8% to $871.9 million, or $1.95 a share, from $808.8 million, or $1.62 per share in the prior-year quarter. Total revenue dropped to $15.1 billion from $15.14 billion in the prior year quarter. At 13:24 pm London time, the UK FTSE rose 1.10 points or 0.02% to 5,604.62. The German DAX and French CAC increased 0.80% and 0.81% respectively.
The Nikkei 225 fell 287.87 points or 2.57% to 10,924.79. The Hang Seng index of Hong Kong slumped 312.39 points or 1.47% to 20,949.40.

NYMEX Crude oil for May delivery declined 7 cents to $82.37 a barrel in electronic trading.


Sprint Nextel Corp. Contract customers are considered the most lucrative.

The rating is based on predictions that Sprint can stabilize its contract customer base through the second quarter and find new areas to manage or cut costs, as well as on its current share price being on the low end of the sector’s historical range, the note said.

The second quarter, which started at the beginning of the month, is the “most likely quarter ... for Sprint to meaningfully best expectations,” the note said.
